VISIT CAIRO EGYPT

Cairo is the capital of Egypt and has an official population of over sixteen million people, making it the largest city in Africa and the Middle East. Its population was estimated at 700,000 inhabitants in the 1920s, making it the tenth largest metropolis in the world by counting the total population of the urban area. Although Al-Qāhira is the official name, it is called more often Masr in Egyptian Arabic, the Arabic name for Egypt, or as Al-Fustat.

It is located on the banks of the Nile as well as some adjacent islands in the north of Egypt. To the west is the city of Giza and the ancient necropolis of Memphis on the Giza plateau, with its three large pyramids including the pyramid of Cheops. To the south is the site of the ancient Egyptian city of Memphis.

The people of Cairo are called Cairenes
