VISIT MUNICH GERMANY


Munich (München in German, Minga in Bavarian) is, with 1,474,223 inhabitants in the May 30, 2014, Germany's third largest city by population after Berlin and Hamburg. Its urban area has 2,351,706 inhabitants. Munich is the capital of Bavaria and the District of Upper Bavaria. Between 482 and 579 meters above sea level, the city is bisected by the River Isar, a distance of 13.7 km, from southwest to northeast. Important economic hub, home to large including Siemens, Allianz, BMW, Munich Ruckversicherung, Linde, EADS Deutschland and HypoVereinsbank companies. 

According to Eurostat, the extended metropolitan area of Munich urban area is the largest in Germany in terms of GDP, with € 117.6 billion, ahead of Hamburg, Berlin and Frankfurt. With a GDP per capita of € 53 073, Munich is also one of the richest cities of the European Union. 

The city is famous for its traditional beer festival (Oktoberfest) which takes place every year from late September to early October. 

This is the second tourist destination in Germany after Berlin.
